Most ants come into your kitchen to look for food. They are attracted to anything that is sweet and sticky, which is why you will normally find ants in kitchen cupboards or areas where food is kept.
If you are worried that you might be at risk from an ant infestation, you can put in place some proactive ant deterrent measures.
The list below will help you minimise the risk of ant infestation in your home or business premises.
Clear up - food and liquid spillages immediately.
Sweep up - any food crumbs from under your kitchen appliances and units.
Store your food - in airtight containers wherever possible.
Block off - the entry points for ants by sealing all cracks and crevices around your doors and window frames.
In the garden - keep your compost enclosed and make sure all rubbish bins have tightly sealed lids.
Cover all food - you don’t know where ants have been walking before they march across your food.
If you have a pet - clear away any food that isn’t eaten straight away.
DID YOU KNOW: Once an ant has discovered a food source it leaves a pheromone trail. This chemical helps other ants from the colony to find the food too!

Depending on the sort of ant infestation that you have in your home, you may wish to try the following home remedies to help control the ant infestation prior to calling us:
Ants have a strong sense of smell which can affect their behaviour and the way they interact with each other. So, you could mix baking soda with sugar as an attractant and lay it near the ant’s nests in your home. Usually, the ants die after consuming this and all you then need to do is run the vacuum cleaner to get rid of the remains!
Ants do not have an affinity for copper. So, you could empty your piggy banks or coin purses and just leave some copper coins near the ants’ nests to deter them from spreading.
Be sure to look for any cracks and crevices on windows, doors and walls in your home and block these using adhesive barriers, or even chalk, to prevent ants from entering and building nests.
If the ant nest is small, you could physically remove the ants nest from your premises by placing a container filled with some wool or straw on the nest and then place the container filled with the nest in a wide space.
Removing ants yourself can be dangerous! So, we would suggest that you call us for removing them safely, securely and swiftly.
